I'm Lisa. A travel enthusiast, industrial engineer, and mother of three young children. Since the birth of my children, sustainability has become even more important in my life.
On our parental leave trip with the whole family, our son's third word was "trash," and so I spent a long time thinking about what I could do with the trash we saw in some of the most beautiful places on earth. That sounds rather clinical at first, like a nice marketing pitch, so I'd like to delve a little deeper. Trash really is everywhere: Of the 30 countries I've traveled to in the last 10 years, I can't name a single one that has its trash under control. It's not a problem that can be easily and generally defined, but it's a problem everywhere!
We can't expect everyone to become perfect zero-waste consumers, and honestly, I still consider it impossible for myself. What we should do is: all do our best and take steps to address our various waste problems. The first step is to produce less waste and model this behavior for our children. We also point out litter to our children and pick up the trash together. I recently read a fitting slogan for this: "It's not my trash, but it's my world!"
As an engineer, the follow-up question for me is: What can I create from the available resources? How can I make sensible use of all this plastic waste?
It's fascinating what we can already achieve with recycled and renewable materials!
When we had 5 different blankets with us on our campervan trip through Europe, but none of them could meet all our needs, I had the idea to develop a blanket that is multifunctional and can be made from recycled post-consumer PET bottles.
Being away on my travels meant countless evenings and nights spent immersing myself in unfamiliar fields. Always by my side: my husband and partner in crime, Philipp. To give you a few exciting examples: vector files in four different graphics programs, poring over Pantone colors (which, by the way, look different on every screen and in every light), checking trademark/name rights, business registration, German customs import regulations...
Some of the tasks are grueling and make you despair. Then the first prototype arrives, and you just want to help the postal worker unload it because it feels way too slow, and who actually came up with the idea of packaging the blanket so well... Give it to me!

For me, UNFOLD now represents more than just a blanket - UNFOLD stands for freedom and self-development.
My UNFOLD team and I have just completed a very intensive crowdfunding campaign ( startnext.de/unfoldoutdoor ); another adventure where my UNFOLD never let me down, and together we found many courageous people who believe in our potential. We've already sold 417 UNFOLDs and, including our own contributions, raised €33,115. What a fantastic start!
Now comes the next step towards independence and freedom – your own online shop. We're so glad you found your way here!
In addition to the blue outdoor blanket, which was the very first product, we now offer the following blankets and accessories:
In addition, there are some sets of bestsellers, where various products are offered together in a package at a discounted price.
